Dit hoofdstuk beschrijft het proces van institutionalisering van de productie van de Tsjechische vertaling van de Vlaamse literatuur in het bijzonder in het laatste decennium. De enige toegang tot de Vlaamse literatuur in het verleden was door de keuze van de individuele vertalers. In de communistische periode werd de vertaler in feite bepalend voor de keuze van de te vertalen Vlaamse literatuur. In de late jaren negentig zien we duidelijk een snel institutionaliseringproces binnen de Nederlandse literatuur in de Tsjechische Republiek en een soortgelijk proces, met betrekking tot de Vlaamse literatuur, vindt plaats tien jaar later. De verantwoordelijkheid voor de keuze van de te vertalen boeken verschuift van de vertaler naar de uitgever. De activiteiten en systematische aanpak van het Vlaams Fonds voor de Letteren zijn in dit opzicht van doorslaggevend belang.

This chapter describes the process of institutionalization of the production of Czech translations of Flemish literature especially in the last decennium. The only access to Flemish literature in the past was through the choice of individual translators.In the communist period the translator in fact dominated the choice of Flemish literature to be translated. In the late nineties we clearly see a rapid institutionalization process within Dutch literature in the Czech Republic and a similar process, with regards to Flemish literature, takes place ten years later. The responsibility for the choice of which books to be translated shifts from the translator to the publisher. The activities and systematic approach of the Flemish Literature Fund have been of deciding importance as well in this respect.
