Het artikel gaat over de invloed van persoonlijke contacten op wat vóór 1989 in het Tsjechisch vertaald is van de Nederlandstalige literatuur. Na een korte inleiding over de Tsjechische vertaalcultuur geeft het artikel een overzicht van enkele interessante gevallen. De eerste is de serie 1000 nejkrásnějších novell 1000 světových spisovatelů (de 1000 mooiste romans van 1000 wereldauteurs) uit het begin van de 20e eeuw. De tweede is de vertaler Jaroslav Kamper uit dezelfde periode. De derde is de Tsjechische symbolistische schrijver en vertaler Arnošt Procházka. Het laatste geval is de professionele vertaalster Lída Faltová, die o.a. de eerste vertalingen maakte van het werk van Willem Elsschot. In alle gevallen wordt bekeken hoe hun persoonlijke contacten hun vertaalproductie gedeeltelijk hebben beïnvloed.

The paper concerns the influence of personal contacts on what has been translated from Dutch and Flemish literature into Czech before 1989. After a short introduction about Czech translation culture, the paper gives a survey of a couple of interesting cases. The first is the series 1000 nejkrásnějších novell 1000 světových spisovatelů (The 1000 most beautiful novels of 1000 world authors) from the beginning of the 20th century. The second is the translator Jaroslav Kamper from the same period. The third is the Czech symbolist writer and translator Arnošt Procházka. The last case is the professional translator Lída Faltová, who made the first translations of Willem Elsschot’s work. In all cases, a look is given how their personal contacts partly influenced their translation production.
