Lapses, Affects, Supplement: Hiro Murai’s Audiovisual Anachronism
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Reading the formal affects of anger and violence, as unfolded throughout the ironic reenactment of the American Revolutionary War on the nocturnal periphery of a deserted parking lot in the music video Day Ones (2016), directed by Hiro Murai for the trap music producer Baauer, this chapter argues that the way the music video thinks with history is performative and grounded in a creative betrayal of the past, undermining representation of a historical experience in favor of its affective performance. Suggesting that such a creative betrayal of the past is always already incorporated into the supplementary structure of the music video it also proposes a concept of the audiovisual supplement which takes seriously the double bind of the visual addition and substitution, thus complementing some of the recent voices in the emerging music video turn.
