Using Existential Phenomenology in Qualitative Management Research: Insights into Being a Manager

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

This case study describes the experience gained during qualitative research aimed at exploring critical moments of managerial practice. The research is based on a combination of existential hermeneutic phenomenology and interpretive phenomenological analysis, which enabled the capture of the life stories of managers who turned a difficult situation into an opportunity. The research results showed that the experience of crisis and its successful redescription led to the discovery of an authentic way of being in which managers were able to restore broken interpersonal relationships and achieve self-development. The research provided unique insights into managerial practice and the existential dilemmas experienced by managers. The case study will focus on describing the basic principles of the research method and outline further research opportunities. The reader of this case study will learn to ask appropriate research questions that can be answered by research based on existential phenomenology. Reading the case study will enable an understanding of the importance of analyzing the lived experiences of managers. The case study will present the main problems and challenges associated with each phase of the research and suggest ways to overcome them. The work on this case study was supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic within the project IGA_FF_2022_039 “Challenges of economics and management in the 21st century” of Palacký University Olomouc.
