Orléans war im 12. und 13. Jahrhundert das wichtigste Zentrum für das Studium lateinischer Dichter der Antike, der auctores. Zu den produktivsten Kommentatoren zählt Wilhelm von Orléans, der um 1200 den Kommentar Bursarii super Ovidios zu allen bekannten Werken Ovids schrieb. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Kommentaren bieten die Bursarii keinen Kommentar zu allen Versen, erläutert werden vielmehr systematisch Textstücke, die als problematisch empfunden wurden. Dabei integrieren die Bursarii als Catena-Kommentar die besprochenen Textteile in den laufenden Kommentartext. Sechs Handschriften aus dem 13. und frühen 14. Jahrhundert überliefern die Bursarii vollständig, bisweilen zusammen mit anderen Kommentaren oder Einführungen in die Autorenlektüre (accessus), mehr als 20 weitere Handschriften aus dem 13. und 14. Jahrhundert überliefern sie in Teilen. Die Bursarii hatten erheblichen Einfluss auf die Ovid-Kommentierung im europäischen Spätmittelalter, gerade auch auf den sogenannten Vulgat-Kommentar. Die Bursarii werden hier erstmals kritisch ediert.

In the 12th and 13th century, Orléans was the most important centre for the study of ancient Latin poets, the auctores. William of Orléans, who wrote the commentary Bursarii super Ovidios on all of Ovid&apos;s known works around 1200, is one of the most prolific commentators. In contrast to other commentaries, the Bursarii does not offer a commentary on all verses; rather, it systematically explains text passages that were perceived as problematic. In doing so, the Bursarii integrate the discussed text parts into the running commentary text as a catena commentary. Six manuscripts from the 13th and early 14th century transmit the Bursarii in full, sometimes together with other commentaries or introductions to the authors&apos; reading (accessus), more than 20 other manuscripts from the 13th and The Bursarii had a considerable influence on Ovid commentary in the late European Middle Ages, especially on the so-called Vulgate commentary. The Bursarii are being critically edited for the first time here.
