Counseling and completion of compulsory attendance for students with special education needs in the UK and the Czech Republic – comparative study

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

The main aim of the paper is through an analysis of selected documents to desribe and compare the possibilities of counselling in relation to support specifically focused on the area of completion of compulsory education for pupils with special education needs (SEN) and transition to the next stage of their lives. The first part of paper introduces the current system of counselling services in the Czech Republic (CZ) and the United Kingdom (UK). The author – based on a methodological approach consisting in a search of currently available resources – also presents a legislative framework, governmental strategies and methodological handbooks reflecting this issue in the context of the above-mentioned target group in both countries. The data obtained are subsequently analyzed, segmented and compared using established thematic sub-categories (e.g. legislative framework of transition planning counselling; interdisciplinary collaboration; methodological support of the process of transition planning; role of people involved in the transition planning process). Regarding the fact that this specific topic is not given sufficient attention in the CZ, the results of this study may bring new suggestions into the area of counselling in special and inclusive education. In a broader context, the aim is to promote an inclusive approach to persons with disability as holistically conceived individuals in an important period of their lives.
