The Impact of Workplace Bullying on Self-Esteem among Elementary School Teachers

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

During the past 20 years, workplace bullying has become a widely discussed and examined issue. Workplace bullying is a subtle manifestation of disturbed relationships in the workplace and it is considered an extreme type of social stressor at work. Numerous studies suggest that there is no working area where this form of aggression does not appear. However, there are areas such as education, where this unethical form of communication is more common. It is obvious that workplace bullying is a serious ethical issue, which affects the life of current schools and significantly influences the personality of the teacher-victim and the teacher’s work performance and private life. The aim of the research focuses on the impact of workplace bullying in the self-esteem among elementary school teachers. The research sample consisted of 313 elementary school teachers, average age 44, SD 10, 51. To determine the empirical data, we used the following research methods: Negative Acts Questionnaire- revised (NAQ-R), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and Sociodemographic questionnaire. The results of the survey point to the fact that teachers who have been victims or witnesses of workplace bullying have lower self-esteem than teachers without this negative experience, however the differences are not statistically significant.
