Practice teaching is an irreplaceable component of the professional preparation of teachers of physical education and plays a significant role in resolving discrepancies between pedagogical theory and school practice. The aim of our research was to analyze evaluations of physical education lessons for pupils, verify the successfulness of progressive teaching changes to the educational process and rate new conceptions of physical education in practice teaching. The research was carried out at 23 secondary schools in the Olomouc region and 52 secondary schools in the Wroclaw region. Each student teacher taught, in a selected classroom, one habitual (routine) followed by one progressive physical education lesson. Overall the research was participated in by 5266 pupils in the school year 2002/2003. From our research results it is apparent that pupils in the Wroclaw region rate physical education lessons more positively than pupils in the Olomouc region. Only in the Wroclaw region did pupil
