Three journeys with the Chinese Restaurant in Prague
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The chapter focuses on the functioning of the Chinese Restaurant in Prague in 19 Vodičkova Street, opened in 1958. Initially staffed by Chinese chefs and able to import various luxury ingredients from China for its own use, the restaurant quickly gained enormous popularity despite its relatively high prices. Although originally intended to symbolize the friendship between Czechoslovakia and contemporary China, from the beginning it offered a virtual journey to exotic pre-revolutionary China with its Mandarin style. The business was popular with many Czech cultural celebrities and later offered a trip to the local High Society and the opportunity to meet famous personalities including singer Karel Gott. The U koruny restaurant in Hostivice, which is a continuation of the original Chinese restaurant, offers a retro-trip to the luxury of the 1970s and 1980s.
