The paper presents research into the starting moments of translators’ careers, specifically Polish translators of Czech literature who debuted between 2000 and 2017. First, it sketches the broader context of Czech-to-Polish translations in the last two decades. Second, it presents the method of the research (semi-structured interviews) and the respondents (focusing on their gender, age, and education). Afterwards, specific trends are discussed, especially those concerning the gender of the translators, as well as building trust by aspiring translators, including the phenomenon of self-publishing.n
