Angesichts der politischen und gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen der letzten Jahrzehnte stellt sich das 18. Heft die Frage, inwieweit Grenze(n) im neuen Jahrtausend weiterhin einen wichtigen Bestandteil des literarischen Diskurses in der deutschsprachigen Literatur bilden, wie sie (de)konstruiert werden und welche Strategien einer Grenzüberschreitung hier angeboten werden. Diskutiert wird auch, inwieweit die Grenze(n) weiterhin eine Rolle in der Wahrnehmung von Europa (EU) als kulturelles und sozio-politisches Gebilde sowie in Bezug auf die damit eng zusammenhängende Konstruktion einer „europäischen“ Identität nach außen hin spielen. Oder ob auch innerhalb von Europa „(Binnen)Grenze(n)” zwischen ‚Ost‘ und ‚West‘ identifiziert und kritisch reflektiert werden. Im Fokus stehen dabei v. a. deutsche und österreichische Prosawerke sowie Theaterstücke bzw. -inszenierungen, d. h. von Staaten, die geographisch die ehemalige geopolitische Grenze zwischen ‚Ost‘ und ‚West‘ markieren.

In view of the political and social changes of recent decades, the 18th issue asks to what extent border(s) continue to form an important part of literary discourse in German-language literature in the new millennium, how they are (de)constructed and what strategies for crossing borders are offered here. The extent to which the border(s) continue to play a role in the perception of Europe (EU) as a cultural and socio-political entity and in relation to the closely related construction of a ‘European’ identity to the outside world will also be discussed. Or whether ‘(internal) border(s)’ between ‘East’ and ‘West’ are also identified and critically reflected upon within Europe. The focus here is primarily on German and Austrian prose works as well as theatre plays and productions, i.e. from states that geographically mark the former geopolitical border between ‘East’ and ‘West’.
