THE ISSUES OF PRESCHOOL EDUCATION WITH FOCUS ON SCHOOL READINESS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The objective of the submitted text is to present the current state of preschool education (ISCED 0) in the Czech Republic (CR) with a focus on children’s readiness for going to basic school (ISCED 1). To begin with, we look at defining the basic framework of preschool education in the Czech Republic in terms of education policy, curriculum documents and core schools legislation. The principal topic is the school readiness of children for going to basic school. We define the key factors affecting the level of school readiness in relation to the social, family and preschool environment. Due to the specific features of education in nursery schools and considering the age of children who are its target group, within this framework there is extensive co-operation with children’s families. Parents are responsible for the education of their child, and as such are the main actors in the selection of basic school, enrolment in Year 1 of basic school and any deferment in the child’s school attendance. The final section looks at the conclusions of education policy strategic documents, in particular an analysis of the Czech School Inspectorate annual report, which systematically evaluates preschool education in the Czech Republic.
